AVIATION KRYVYI RIH

An interesting informative excursion during which the tourists can see:
- an outdoor aircraft fleet with two technical mini-museums;
- an international airport "Kryvyi Rih";
- Museum of History and Labor Glory of Kryvyi Rih Aviation College of the National Aviation University.
- a meteorological station at the airport, where the weather forecast is made;
- a place where the first Aviator School was operating in the 30s of the last century and where the Kryvyi Rih aviation has started.

The visitors will learn everything about: the history of aviation in Kryvyi Rih region, the history of aviation personnel training, outstanding pilots of Kryvyi Rih, aircrafts of different models, structure and application of airport premises, the history of the meteorological station of the airport, which allows to study all weather processes of the sky over the city.

There is an international airport “Kryvyi Rih” with a 2,500 meters long and 42 meters wide runway. Availability of necessary services, special equipment, convenient location makes it possible for the airport to accept planes of almost all classes. Capacity is 9 operations (takeoff - landing) per hour.

However, at the moment airport does not enjoy great popularity. There have been some scheduled flights to Kyiv and Moscow. Now the airport focuses mainly on servicing charter flights.

Museum of History and Labor Glory of Kryvyi Rih Aviation College of the National Aviation University. The area of the Museum is 246 m2. It was founded in 1975. The main hall which is like a cabin, offers exhibition of the events, people and dates important for the history of Aviation College established in 1951. The Second Hall is a Museum of the Great Patriotic War with this diorama depicting a decisive battle for Kryvyi Rih. There is one more exhibition hall inside Tu-114 Airplane demonstrating the centennial history of aviation development. The Museum exhibits: photos, maps, clothing, household items and services, aircraft models, text information, stands, a globe, awards, pennants and more. Funds of the Museum includes 4.5 thousand exhibit items.

Nearby the Aviation College there is probably the most unique aircraft fleet of Ukraine, which was established on the basis of air fleet where the old Kryvyi Rih Unpaved Airport had operated till the end of 1970s . You can see a wide range of rare instances of Soviet aviation. There are two unique exhibits among these winged machines: jet airliner Tu-154 which was filmed in the first Soviet disaster movie "Crew"; a long-haul airliner Tu-114, which was a wonder of the aeronautical engineering of those times, the Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev flew to America in 1956 on a similar plane. Today, there are only 3 models of this type in the world:- in Moscow, Ulianovsk and Kryvyi Rih.

The tourists are usually deeply impressed by visiting these objects.
