Evraz

PJSC "Evraz Sukha Balka" is one of the leading enterprises specializing in iron ore underground mining. The history of the plant starts from the last century, when in 1885 the British entrepreneur KD Perry, and then from 1896 Trading House "Emerick & C" began open pit development of iron ore deposits.

The open pit mining method had been used by 1908. In 1912 the "Popkovska" Mine was commissioned; its capacity was 120 tons of ore per year, it was considered to be the most powerful mine in the Kryvyi Rih basin. During the years 1918-1925 the Ore Mine Administration did not work. Restoration started in 1926. They launched a quarry #2, a semi-mine #4, "Iskra" Mine. In 1928, the "Profinter" Mine was laid; in 1934 the iron ore was extracted there for the first time and the mine was named after Shylman. In 1930 the Pivnichna Mine with a capacity of 300-350 tons annually was commissioned. In 1934 the Tsentralna mine was laid. During the occupation of Kryvyi Rih the Ore Mine Administration did not work. The mines were exploded and flooded. At the end of 1944 iron ore extraction was resumed. In 1950, Ore Mine Administration reached a prewar level. In 1950 the Pivdennyi quarry was commissioned. During 1955 they prepared 270 m horizon of the Tsentralna Mine and 340 m horizon of Shylman Mine; they laid the shaft of the Pivdenna Mine, constrcuted the Stepova Mine, the second phase of the Pivdennyi quarry. In the years of 1956-1958 the Pivdenna Mine and horizons of the Tsentralna Mine were commissioned.

In the years 1966-1970 the horizons 555 m of the Tsentralna, Pivdenna mines were commissioned. Further development of the enterprise was determined by the rapid development of industry and increasing demand for the metal in Ukraine and Europe, increasing demand for iron ore raw material. Intensive development of the enterprise was encouraged by a favorable geographic location of the deposit, developed railway infrastructure to deliver raw materials to the consumers.

After reconstruction in 1962 the Frunze Mine was commissioned, in 1980 the Yuvileyna Mine was constructed with a whole set of surface industrial buildings. Commissioning of the Yuvileyna Mine contributed to decommissioning of the Pivdenna and Tsntralna Mines.

In the years 1957-1991 it was known as XX Partz'izd. Sukha Balka Mine was the first among mining enterprises of Ukraine; in 1993 it became an open joint stock company.

The raw material base of the enterprise is represented by the rich iron deposits mainly of martite and more rarely of hematite structure. Deposits have been explored to a depth of 2060 m in the field of the Yuvileina Mine and to a depth of 1500 m in the field of the Frunze Mine. The iron content in the ore is ranging 56-59%. Besides the rich iron ore mines, there are significant reserves of magnetite quartzites up to 200-300 years of reserves life.

The structure of the enterprise consists of extracting Yuvileyna Mine with a production capacity of 2.25 million tons of sinter ore per year and Frunze Mine- 1.05 million tons of sinter ore per year with crushing complexes and sorting and beneficiating plants as well Mine Construction Administration (provides mining and capital works and construction of the surface facilities), electromechanical workshop (provides mines in the nomenclature of Kryvbas mining equipment repair plants), Road Transport Shop (provides mines and shops with transport, comprises a motor-vehicle pool and its own repair base), Trade and Commerce Administration (comprises a widely branched network of food shops and department stores, a brewery, a bakery, knitwear production shop), Construction Works Administration (performs activities necessary for mainline production and solves social and household issues of the enterprise ).

Production: sintering iron ore of 56 to 60% iron content, blast lump ore of 47 to 50% iron ore content. Consumers of the products are: Alchevsky Steel Works and combine named after Illich in Mariupol, Enakievskiy Metallurgical Plant, PJSC "ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih", Iron & Steel Works in Austria, Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

Today, the enterprise employs 4,500 employees who provide production of over 3.0 million tons of sinter ore per year with an average iron content of 58%.

PJSC "Evraz Sukha Balka" has over 100 years of experience, comprises highly qualified personnel and a great resource base, it is a stable and reliable enterprise working for meeting the demand of its customers and look to the future with optimism.
