LENIN IRON ORE MINE

Lenina

Lenin Iron Ore Mine was commissioned in 1963. It was a component of Ordzhonikidze Mining Administration which was renamed Lenin Mining Administration and was liquidated on the 1st of October 1989. At present it is a part of PJSC "Kryvyi Rih Iron Ore Complex".

Estimated capacity of the Mine is 2,3 million tons. The Mine comprises a shaft of 7,5 m diameter, 2 skip hoists of two tons weigh. In the mining field the shaft-shaped deposits are prevailing. The deposits' length is ranging 50-300 m, the angle of incidence is 54-60°, and the horizontal capacity is 10-30 m. Ore strength is 50-70 mPas. Sidewall rocks comprise tough martite quartzites of 160-180 mPa strength. Lying wall is made of combined quartzites of 120-140 and 160-200 mPa strenghth and layers of slates.

The shaft of Lenin Mine has reached a depth of 1441 m. Purification works are performed on horizons of 1200 and 1275 m, and mining-fundamental ones – on horizons of 1425 and 1500 m. 85% of the Mine's deposits are extracted by means of heading-and-stall method, and 15% - by means of systems providing ore collapses as well as overlapping rocks collapses. Height of level which is being worked out is 75 m. Deposits of the Mine are explored up to a depth of 1955 m - 142,5 million tons with 57,40% iron content.

New working horizon of 1350 m was created in 2010. The high-productive imported mining equipment has been introduced at the Mine. A labour-free Finnish combine is functioning here, the machine drills the ground from the bottom upwards.

In 2010 the workers of the Mining and Construction Administration for the first time in Kryvyi Rih region had reached a depth of 1605 m during the lowering into Lenin Mine's shaft.
